This past weekend C and I heading down to the East Village to check out some seriously delicious BBQ. The weather on Saturday was all over the place. We left my apartment to bright sunshine and beautiful weather only to emerge from the subway to torrential downpour. (Naturally, I had decided against bringing an umbrella as the thought of rain was absolutely absurd.) After hiding under an awning until the rain stopped, we eagerly made our way over to Mighty Quinn's to get our hands on some BBQ.
So much excitement for the food and for the sunshine! Spring has fully arrived in NY and I am loving it.
The restaurant is bright and open with large windows and big wooden tables that people actually spend hours hanging out at. I love that they keep it basic and a little sassy... would you like your BBQ naked or on a sandwich.
All the meat is sliced fresh directly in front of you. Everything just looked so delicious. Also, look at how juicy the meat was... sign of some seriously good BBQ.
I went with the brisket sandwich which was served with a little sprinkle of sea salt.
C went with the pulled pork, his absolute favorite. The pulled pork was incredibly soft with just the right amount of sauce. I absolutely loved the sauce. It wasn't too vinegary or too sweet and it had just the right amount of kick.
I smothered my brisket in a very healthy layer of Quinn's BBQ sauce. I kind of loved it.
We paired our sandwiches with some of their fresh fries and homemade ketchup. I of course opted to smother mine in more BBQ sauce, very healthy day, but I just couldn't help it. It was just so damn delicious.
Very content and incredibly full, we relaxed in the sun drenched room enjoying some nice cold beers. Anyone who is stuck in the city for the summer and can't have their own BBQ, I highly suggest grabbing your friends and heading down to Mighty Quinn's to snag some seriously delicious comfort food.
We headed out of Mighty Quinn's to discover that the streets were blocked off to cars and open to the public for a street fair. Summer in New York, although incredibly hot and a little too sticky for my liking, is actually kind of amazing. Street fairs pop up and suddenly it seems like the entire city emerges from their apartment and there is an entirely new liveliness to the city.
After lunch we wandered through the market checking out the booths as we went along. Almost as soon as we started out did we notice the clouds begin to form again. I quickly snatched up some new wall decors and we rushed off to catch the bus.
We made it about a block before the torrential downpour began again so we quickly ducked under a laundry mat awning.
We were soon joined by some seriously cute furry friends. This little guy kept snuggling my leg. I wanted to take him home with me but I don't think his owners would have appreciated that.
We finally made it home after getting caught in some light mist but nothing too bad. I was quick to hang my new wall art... old New Yorker Magazines! I absolutely love them. They are so simple but so full of history.
I particularly love this last one as it is my favorite view of the city from the park.
If anyone has any other home decor ideas I would love to hear about them. Happy Weekend!
